"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", as the old adage says. These days, people are valuing their health more than ever, and oral health is not an exception. Taking care of our teeth and gums reflect not only the condition of the oral cavity, but also the whole body. The mouth is just as important as the rest of the parts of our body as it is what we use to eat, drink, talk, and breathe; the more reason, we should take care of it. Proper brushing and flossing are proven to show a lot of benefits. Not only does it give you a whiter smile, but it also keeps your gums in tiptop shape. When you take care of your teeth, you'll save a lot as well on unnecessary expenses to fix a broken tooth. Love your teeth, and they will surely love you back.

Keeping your teeth clean and healthy means maintaining proper oral hygiene. This includes toothbrushing, flossing, and regular visits to your dentist. Toothbrushing, is usually the first step in keeping our pearly whites in tiptop shape. Our mouth is an environment where both good and bad bacteria can be found. However, as we brush our teeth, the toothbrush we use could be a breeding ground for these bacteria. These germs could be possible carriers of some diseases such as flu. Respiratory illness usually starts from the mouth to the throat, so it is best to prevent the disease before it even happens. There are many ways we can keep our brushes clean. The most common way is that after brushing, toothpaste and all remaining debris is rinsed out with clean water. Let it stand on its handle and allow to dry and check that it isn’t touching other brushes. You may also use mouthwash and disinfecting solutions to clean your brushes such as: -rinsing the bristles in antibacterial mouthwash for 30 seconds -soaking your brush in 2 tsps. baking soda and a cup of water -cleaning the bristles with diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide and a cup of water -soaking the bristles in vinegar overnight once a week -using a denture tablet cleanser and allowing the bristles to be cleaned in 5 minutes Also take note that toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 months or if you see any signs of fraying or wear. Even a small step like keeping those bristles clean can go a long way in keeping mouth and overall health. Before starting dental treatment, aside from asking the patient's main concern, it is important to have a thorough knowledge of the patient's medical and dental history. Not only does this inform us of the patient's past treatment and medications, but it will also serve as a guide in determining what treatment needs to be done. Medical conditions are often linked to what dental problems may be seen upon consultation. It is because there are some diseases that reflect symptoms starting from the oral cavity. Aside from that, the medication that needs to be prescribed before and after treatment as well as the anesthetic that will be used ( if needed ) will all depend on the patient's health status. It is therefore the patient's responsibility to provide the health provider with a complete and honest report of their medical history to ensure the safety of the doctors, staff, and other patients. With this, it prevents the spread of any communicable disease by taking appropriate measures. Any dental related concerns you would want us to discuss? floss, types of floss, why floss, does floss remove plaque
By Kirdlappi Dental Clinic 02 Jul, 2020
Aside from brushing your teeth at least twice a day, it is important to floss at least once daily. Most people floss before bedtime, as the teeth is already clean after brushing. Flossing helps mechanically remove food debris and plaque in between two teeth, as well as reach areas below the gumline. Dental floss and other interdental cleaners help clean these hard-to-reach tooth surfaces and reduce the likelihood of gum disease and tooth decay. Just like toothbrushing, it is an essential part in taking care of your teeth and gums. Different type of floss are available in the market such as silk, nylon (waxed or unwaxed), dental tape, and PTFE, each one with its own use depending on the patient's needs. As we resume clinic operations, we have received these common questions from our patients. Some of these questions, we have collected below. Q: What are the new guidelines in making an appointment? A: Due to the current situation, we highly encourage our patients to schedule their appointments in advance before coming to our clinic. This is to avoid waiting in the reception area, to lessen exposure with other patients, and to have enough time to disinfect our treatment area before your schedule. We are also implementing an asepsis fee which includes your consultation, personal protective equipment, and disinfection & sterilization (UV treatment and fogging) to prevent spread of any disease. This will be settled on the day of your appointment. We will also be sending out online forms that you will answer before the day of the appointment. The forms will be used to screen patients before coming to our clinic and will also serve as your online dental record. After completing the online questionnaire, you will be prompted to deposit a commitment fee (similar to a reservation fee) of which you may deposit online via mobile banking (BDO, BPI, or GCash). This is to give consideration to our dentists and staff who will be travelling on the day of your appointment, in order to avoid missed/cancelled appointments. The commitment fee is deductible from the total amount due that we will settle on the day of your appointment. Once the commitment fee is settled, your appointment is now confirmed. Kindly settle the commitment fee at least a day before your appointment (last call is 1:00 PM the day before your appointment) so that we may be able to accommodate other patients in case you wish to reschedule or cancel your appointment. Failure to do so will result to the cancellation of your appointment. We will also message you to inform you that we have received your payment to confirm your schedule. Q: How do I make an appointment? A: You may contact us from Monday to Saturday, 9AM to 5PM through the following: Landline: 8899-0621 | 8664-8488 Mobile: (0927) 268 7479 E-mail: smile@kirdlappi.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kirdlappidentalclinicmakati Website: https://www.kirdlappi.com/#BOOK Q: Are companions/parents allowed to come with us during our appointment? A: If possible, we do encourage our patients to come by themselves. However, if the patient is a minor, or is in need of someone to assist them (such as senior citizens, PWDs, others), they may do so given that they will only be accompanied by one (1) person. We also have designated seats at the reception area to maintain the distance of 1 meter apart for each person. Q: How do I make payments after my treatment? A: We encourage our patients to settle payments through mobile banking (BDO, BPI, GCash). However, we still accept debit/credit cards. As for cash payments, we are providing a designated box where you can place your payment for disinfection. Q: How is the clinic disinfected? A: We do disinfection of the operatory and reception room before and after every patient. UV sterilization is also done every day after clinic hours. All instruments are disinfected (ultrasonic cleaner), sterilized (autoclaved), and placed in a UV unit before use. Personal Protective Equipment are cleaned, autoclaved/UV treated after each use. During treatment, an extraoral suction is used to minimize aerosols and an additional intraoral suction is also used during invasive treatment. Other questions? Kindly leave us a message with your question through the following platforms below and we will answer your questions as soon as we can. We hope to see you soon! 1. Wash your hands thoroughly. Frequent hand washing should be done for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. Alcohol may also be used to disinfect the hands when soap and water are not available, to kill the viruses which may be on your hands. (1) 2. Cough and sneeze into a paper tissue. Cover your mouth and nose then face away from people when sneezing. Dispose used tissue papers and masks properly after each use and always wash or disinfect your hands after sneezing. Avoid spitting, as well as touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. (2) 3. Keep a safe distance. Practice physical distancing of at least 1 meter (4 feet) away from the next person, especially those experiencing respiratory symptoms. Avoid going to crowded places. 4. Keep surfaces clean. Make it a habit to disinfect your home and workplace frequently by wiping surfaces (desks and chairs) and objects (such as phones and keyboards) as contamination on surfaces is one of the main ways the virus would spread. (3) 5. Stay at home. Especially if you are experiencing symptoms such as headache, cough, or mild fever. Instead, have someone bring you supplies. Plan your schedule before you go out and if you do go out, wear a face mask at all times. 6. Call before going to the doctor. if you have fever, cough, or need to seek medical attention, it is best to contact your local health authority first prior to visiting the clinic. Calling in advance will help your health care provider direct you to the right health facility as well as protect yourself and others from viruses and other infections.
